The outcome of total joint arthroplasty (TKA) in the setting of Ehlers-Danlos syndromes (EDS) were compared to those noted among patients undergoing TKA for osteoarthritis (OA). Researchers matched 16 patients (20 knees) with EDS who underwent a TKA
Surgical reconstruction is a life changer for people with end-stage ankle arthritis, a painful condition that limits patients’ abilities to go up and down stairs, get out of a car and even walk. Now researchers from The Rothman Orthopedic Institute at Jefferson Health
Authors gauged the long-term outcome, regarding survival and radiological results, of a cemented straight stem when used for revision total hip arthroplasty (THA). They also compared these results to the results of the same stem in primary THA.
The role of total hip arthroplasty through the direct anterior approach in femoral neck fracture and factors affecting the outcome
Researchers sought to compare the clinical outcomes, perioperative complications, and mortality of total hip arthroplasty (THA) through the direct anterior approach (DAA) between femoral neck fractures (FNF) and elective cases. For patients presenting an FNF, with excellent functional outcomes, less surgery-related complications and lower short- and long-term mortality, a credible and safe option could be THA through the DAA than those reported in the literature. The survival rate could be potentially increased with the early intervention and perioperative stabilization of the patients with FNF.

Cost-effectiveness of total hip arthroplasty vs nonoperative management in normal, overweight, obese, severely-obese, morbidly-obese, and super-obese patients: A markov model
Among 6 BMI cohorts, authors estimated the cost-effectiveness of performing total hip arthroplasty (THA) vs nonoperative management (NM). In order to compare the cost-utility of THA and NM in the six BMI groups over a 15-year period, they constructed a state-transition
